COLLECTION: IT FORMS WHAT IT FORMS
AUTUMN-WINTER 08-09
This is a collection that was born from a project that began last year on the distortion of the body. It started as a need to create different volumes, thus falsifying the reality of things. Just like in the theatre, the collection was included through different acts, three to be exact. However, it remained unfinished and it is for that reason that there is now the need to complete it and for the fourth and last act to appear.
Philosophy
“It forms what it forms” approaches androgynous forms and distances itself from general structures with regard to treatment of the body. It tries to break the form until such a point that the “wrapping” loses its importance and serves only as a skeleton which harbours the idea of destroying thoughts and definitions of beauty as we know it.
There is a set of forms that structure the body energetically searching for another kind of beauty.
The set begins with movement. The first act begins by fusing strength and velocity together and continues dismantling itself whilst looking for another image of beauty.
The second act shows how different cultures understand beauty; it is a matter of putting distortion on a level with beauty.
We are speaking of the distortion of the mind in the third act along with the thoughts that shut us in, thus criticising the western culture and its image of delicacy that indeed contains a means related to the forming and distorting of the body.
After the revolution, the collection is finalised with mental freedom (fourth act) in which the equality and the difference of bodies combine agitated and rigid forms.
Structure
Ladies and menswear collection in a total of nineteen looks.
- First act: Fluid lines in jackets and trousers that begin to become distorted. Technological materials with a black and nightly blue base printed with different colours.
- Second act: Dismantling and distortion in the upper part of the leg. Grey and maroon colours are printed for traditional African tattoos.
- Third act: Volume is created in the upper part giving importance to the back, especially in jackets. Cotton serves as a base to print graphics. There is an abundance of nightly blue and dark green.
- Fourth act: The volume is amplified to extremes in garments such as coats and dresses. These garments are indistinctively used by men and women alike. The colours are dark and intense and the tissues are smooth.
