Hannibal Laguna
Career Path Philosophy of the collection Press box Photos/Video

Hanníbal Laguna, who was born in Caracas (Venezuela) in 1967, is one of the most recognised and valued figures from Valencian fashion in the whole world.

Spanish and Valencian by adoption, Laguna has developed a career path full of successes which are the fruit of a vitalist passion, the constant striving for perfection, work that has been well done and of a thrill felt to communicate a very particular vision of fashion which has meant everyone who shares this feeling enjoy it.

His exquisite definition of profiles, structures and silhouettes of a woman, stand out in his proposals, with which he has become a reference to contemporary femininity. Woman from all walks of culture, society and the present life of our country, enjoy feeling his garments.

  • After being trained in Milan, he had a very swift introduction into the complicated and interesting world of Fashion, presenting his first collection in 1986.

  • In 1990 he opened his own dressmaking house in Alicante, encouraged by the great success of his collections and the opportunity to reinterpret a unique and historical space, of
great aesthetic nobility, united with the history of the city: The Salvetti Palace recovered the life of the hand of fashion and the avant-garde.

  • His collections have been presented, since 1987, at the international Gaudí Fashion Parade and added to this is the career path of the designer in a decade, in which Gaudí has witnessed his proposals in the prêt-à-porter for men and women or the jewels of dressmaking that he has presented for a romantic, feminine and contemporary bride.

  • The success of these collections has helped him to become part of the international project of PRONOVIAS, a house in which he has created the trademark HANNIBAL LAGUNA PARA PRONOVIAS, which is present in the whole world with a special and unique image.

  • In I998 he presented the collection EN DIRECTO (LIVE), Spring – Summer 99, at the Cibeles Fashion Parade.

  • One year later, in 1999, he opened his new dressmaking workshop in Jorge Juan Street, in an eclectic building, noble and united by history to the Salamanca District.  It is a perfect shop window for a symbiosis of avant-garde and tradition.

  • From there he also created new collections of accessories, shoes and jewellery, which are to be found in his two workshops and in exclusive retail establishments all over Spain.

  • Hannibal Laguna Ceremonia and Hannibal Laguna Comunión are the last two lines of a trademark that is enriched every day with new challenges.

  • His relationship with culture has ended up being and continues to be totally unceasing. Up until the present time he has developed an innumerable quantity of collaboration projects with the cinema, the theatre and several Spanish museums. A complementary perspective
of his work which has also led him to take charge of the image of relevant characters from social, political and cultural life…

  • We can highlight collaborations as interesting as that of the wardrobe for the play CINDERELLA by Antonio Canales (Madrid 2000), or the Adaptation of the PROMETEO, also by Antonio Canales and Rafael Amargo in the opening of the Classic Theatre Festival of Mérida (Mérida 2000).

  • Another interesting piece of collaboration was the creation of the character “lust” with his particular vision, in the special staging of the DIVINE COMEDY by Dante Alghieri, which the FURA DELS BAUS interpreted in Florence in the year 2002.

As far as image is concerned, figures as relevant in show business and culture such as Paz Vega, Cayetana Guillén Cuervo, Mar Flores, Dafne Fernández, Kira Miró, Lola Herrera, Concha Velasco, Rocío Jurado with a special wardrobe for the gala tribute to the artist in TVE (Spanish National TV Channel) 2005, Nuria Roca, Blanca Suelves, Tamara, Fabiola Toledo, Paula Vázquez, Sylvia Jato, Sonia Ferrer, Boris Izaguirre or Rafael Amargo among others…, as well as personalities from social life, among which some international figures such as Victoria Beckham stand out.

Another chapter is concerned with the exhibitions and collaborations with museum or artistic entities in our country.  Among them several can be highlighted:

  • The collective exhibition ART AND FASHION in the Museum of Fine Arts of Valencia, San PÍO V (1999);
  • the retrospective PASSION FOR SPANISH DESIGN; the historical
  • BEHIND THE MIRROR, FASHION OF SPAIN, inaugurated in the National Museum Centre of Queen Sofia Art (2003) or the collective exhibition 31 TURNS OF A BAG, celebrated in the Suit Museum of Madrid and was later included in the programme of the VALENCIAN INSTITUTE of MODERN ART (IVAM) in 2004.
Finally, it is worth highlighting the collaborations that he has carried out with non-profit institutions, such as the one performed in 2005 with the THEODORA FOUNDATION, for which he designed a particular doctor’s lab coat for Doctor Sonrisa, exhibited and auction at the Suit Museum of Madrid.
